compositioNs by CATHY THOMPSON

I have created these pieces over the past two years, some inspired by family, friends and my personal feelings, others have been created with specific themes or moods, intended for use in films, or for TV and radio. If you wish to licence any of these or would like to commission me to compose something specific for you, do please get in touch. Many thanks.

LOve is all around

This was a collaboration I composed during lockdown with Leon Stanford singing the vocals – all inspired by Charlie Mackesy’s book
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse  It’s a simple melody with a simple, heartfelt message.

About the film soundtrack
This was a British 20-minute horror film about the disappearance of a young girl on Dartmoor.
I had a small budget at my disposal and decided to write for what I knew best – a string sextet.

About the pieces

The Great Sea Mix was my first foray into writing back in 2015. I wanted to combine classical and Indian music. Having recorded the string base of this piece, the wonderful singer Russell Stone sang an interpretation over the top... the piece grew organically and is based on a poem by Rumi.

For Repeat patterns I wanted to write a string quintet with a slight Spanish / jazz feel, adding an acoustic rhythm guitar and some drums to a classical cello and violin duo. This piece sprung from an idea a therapist had told me many years ago, that we never quite kick some habits / patterns in relationships, but rather we repeat them until and they / we become better versions of themselves.

We are all projects for life.
